Thank you, Geraldine!
Today we’re chatting with Geraldine, who has been a CNA with Eldercare for 40 years! Geraldine was also recognized by Carefinderz & Assisted Living Locators as Senior Care Hero of the Week!
Tell us a little bit about yourself!
I graduated High School in 1959 and attended Cape Fear Community College. Married for 58 years with 5 kids, 6 grandkids and 4 great grandchildren. I joined ElderCare in the early 80s, and my philosophy is to treat people the way you want to be treated.
You started working with ElderCare 40 years ago! What drew you to senior home healthcare?
I always liked being around older people and helping them. I was a stay at home mom until my daughter graduated high school. I then started working with ElderCare after my cousin, who was a CNA, encouraged me to get my CNA license.
What would you tell someone if they were thinking of getting their CNA or starting in home health care?
I would tell them if they don’t mind helping people, willing to do their job, and take care of clients like you would take care of yourself. Be kind, be patient, and always willing to do what is needed.
What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?
Sewing, crochet, cooking, caring for people. For my 80th birthday, my oldest daughter took me to Hawaii to celebrate!
What are you most proud of?
All of my children! My oldest daughter just got her doctorate in nursing, one son is the manager of Capital Ford, one daughter is in ministry, one daughter is a manager of FedEx, one son owns his own business. I’m very proud of all my children.
