At AssistedCare and Eldercare, we want to recognize all our CNA’s during Nursing Assistant Appreciation Week, June 18-23!
They are the glue, the rock of health care,” In-Home Eldercare and Assistant Care Program Director Jennifer Gunter said.
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY ) — It is National Nursing Assistants Week, and one local company is celebrating its CNAs.
“They are the glue, the rock of health care,” In-Home Eldercare and Assistant Care Program Director Jennifer Gunter said.
Taking on countless tasks, and wearing many hats.
“Washing, bathing, dressing, makeup, driving to doctors appointments, assisting,” CNA Wanda Tate said.
You name it, and helping in multiple settings, whether it be in-home care, at health facilities, hospitals, and more.
Gunter said CNAs are more than deserving of having their own week.
“They are the lending ear, the eyes and ears for that clinician. They’re a lending hand for the family. They’re giving support,” Gunter explained.
Thursday, Eldercare At Home in Wilmington hosted a drive-thru CNA appreciation event for nursing assistants, where they were given special gift bags and more.
Russell Herring said his mother started the business right out of her garage because she understood the hard work that went into this job.
“She says ‘I wanted to do this,’ because when she was in college, her mother had chronic heart failure. She came home from school, and she took care of her mother, and she says, ‘If I ever get enough money, this is the kind of service I’d like to provide for the community,’” Herring said.
And 47 years later, it has given CNAs like Tate and her mother chances to serve the elderly community.
“‘I enjoy what I do on both levels, for the client as well as for me,” Tate expressed. “I go into the home, I give them what they need, and in return, a lot of days, I don’t even realize that they’ve given me something.”
National Nursing assistants week is from June 18th through the 24th.
